Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, Ravenna
The history of the Mausoleum, an early Christian monument with a Latin cross plan used for funerals, is linked to its patron, the Empress Galla Placidia, daughter of Theodosius, regent of the Western Roman Empire for her son Valentinian III (first half of the 5th century A.D.).
Since 1996 it has featured in the list of Italian UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
DZ Engineering designed and built the Mausoleum’s internal lighting system, on behalf of the Archdiocese of Ravenna and Cervia.
The intent was to enhance the mosaics in the dome, the central lunettes, the barrel vaults and the side lunettes to allow for a suitable material, constructive and artistic analysis, through the installation of the Digilux VM 3000 proprietary control system (a system that modifies and optimises lighting levels depending on the variation of daylight).
