Basilica of San Vitale, Ravenna

The Basilica of San Vitale in Ravenna, a UNESCO World Heritage site, features a new lighting design by DZ Engineering. The intervention strikes a balance between enhancing mosaics and architecture and adhering to strict conservation requirements.

In compliance with the UNI 10829 standard, DZE replaced the previous system with broad-spectrum LED sources (3000-4000 K). This choice ensures visual homogeneity and highlights the vibrant colour palette of the mosaics. The strategy includes specific solutions for each area: indirect light in the ambulatory, concealed floodlights in the matroneum, and FullSpectrum LED accents in the presbytery.

The infrastructure, based on DALI and KNX protocols, enables flexible control of lighting scenarios for liturgical or artistic purposes, seamlessly merging cutting-edge technology with historical sensitivity.
