New light for the Pozzo-La Marmora Stadium in Biella: LED relamping project by DZE

The Pozzo-La Marmora Stadium in Biella is one of the most representative sports facilities in the Piedmont region, serving as the setting for significant football and athletics competitions. Today, it hosts major events such as matches for the Juventus Women’s team, including the UEFA Women’s Champions League, and Biellese, in addition to various competitive and amateur events. In recent years, the growing need to adopt higher lighting standards necessitated a complete overhaul of the lighting system. The project, led by DZ Engineering and focused on LED relamping, was strategic: to ensure superior visual comfort, elevate the technical requirements for TV broadcasting, and, simultaneously, achieve a substantial reduction in energy consumption and operating costs.

Technical innovation and precision: the lighting enhancement

The intervention involved the complete replacement of the old discharge floodlights, which were previously positioned only on the four main lighting towers, with the latest-generation LED fixtures. To achieve high illuminance levels and lighting uniformity in line with international regulations, the system was enhanced with the addition of further floodlights installed on the central grandstand roof and on four supplementary poles on the opposite side, ensuring greater lighting homogeneity. This engineering approach allowed for full compliance with the rigorous requirements for high-definition television coverage and the elimination of shadow zones, guaranteeing optimal visibility from every angle, which is essential for both football fixtures and athletics events.
