Un racconto tra Rovine, Paesaggio e Luce

Curated by Nadia Stefanel

In autumn 2018, the photographic exhibition entitled “La Basilica di Siponto. Un racconto tra Rovine, Paesaggio e Luce[The Basilica in Siponto. A tale of Ruins, Landscape and Light] by Edoardo Tresoldi, was organised at the home of the Dino Zoli Foundation in Forlì. For the first time, the artist had taken on the challenge of bringing an important experience back to the public, that of the creation of a permanent installation made from wire mesh dedicated to the Early Christian Basilica of Santa Maria, commissioned by the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities for the “Le Basiliche” Archaeological Park in Siponto and illuminated by DZ Engineering.

The exhibition brings together sketches, photographic reproductions and videos documenting the various steps that led to the creation of the so-called sculptural architecture. The exhibition is divided into three sections: the first is dedicated to the history and the analysis of the pre-existing structure; the second focuses on architecture, also analysed through the cutting sheets; the third relates to projects carried out by the engineers of DZ Engineering.

Edoardo Tresoldi’s research is characterised by the use of wire mesh. In contrast to conventional architecture, which encloses the space creating a landscape modified by man, his minimal structure embraces the context and welcomes the human presence, giving rise to an unprecedented experience. This ethereal dimension is in constant dialogue with the landscape, which is considered a contamination of cultural, social and identity-related languages, the dynamics of which become part of the artwork.
